10:43am: I'm tripping on my words, I'm burning with desire. (Alex Band)
I love how I just hallucinated and thought there was finally a release date for Alex Band's solo album. No, of course not. That was just a product of my overly caffeinated, under-slept brain. But in all seriousness, when is that thing going to come out? I've been writing the same thing for years: "I can't wait for Alex's album!" ... Years. Literally. The first thing I wrote was in, oh, JUNE OF 2005. It is now NOVEMBER OF 2008 and there is STILL no album! DX (To be fair, he announced in June 2005 that The Calling was going on hiatus - hah! - and he was doing a solo album so that's where my ~writing about it came from. I hadn't started pining for the album yet.) Wasn't there supposed to be a dvd coming out in time for Christmas this year too? The dvd of his Brazil tour? I knew when I first heard about it not to ~hold my breath so I'm not really surprised that nothing else has been said about it, but still. Does anything ever come out on time in Alex Band-land? :[ asjkfhaskfaslkfhaslfhaslfkhaslfkhasfklas f I AM SO TIRED OF WAITING THAT I COULD SCREAM. D: The thing that worries me is that it's going to finally come out... and after all this time and all this anticipation, it's going to fall flat. (Much like the EP. No offense Alex, because I love you dearly, but that EP was not your best work. Rest Of Our Lives is beautiful, but everything else gets kind of obnoxious if you listen to it too much.) Everything I've heard off of it has been wonderful, but then again, live versions and demos are not necessarily the same thing as the recorded product. (I miss the old lyrics to Tonight, sob! Why did he have to change my favorite parts!?) I don't know... I mean, I doubt anything will ever make me stop loving him/supporting him (as been proven by dramafest '08 - I still love the man after that, don't I!?) but I'm going to cry if this album is a disappointment. On a side note, this week is my 7 year anniversary of becoming a The Calling fan. (Or as close as I can figure it, anyway. The first time I wrote about them anywhere was in my agenda in 8th grade, where I scribbled "The Calling - Wherever You Will Go" on a date that I can't remember offhand. I know it was sometime around now because when I looked at it last year, it was within a week of my Alex concert and I thought it was so fitting that I was seeing/meeting him for the first time RIGHT around my ~anniversary. That's not to say it was the first time I heard the song or anything, it's just the first time I wrote about it so I'm going by that.) 7 years of this fandom. Wow. It's pretty hard to believe. o.O ... Yeah, I forgot where I was going with this so um, Alex? Album. Pronto. Or, hell, I'll stop complaining (for a while, at least!) if you come back and play another show here. I know it's only been less than 3 months since the last one but it feels like years ago! D:

7:37pm: You're a womanizer. (Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera)
I feel like I'm back in middle school with the endless Britney vs. Christina debates going on once again. Why does everyone feel the need to pit them against each other? Yes, they're both female pop singers who came out at the same time and had similiar music, blah blah blah. What's wrong with enjoying them both? Why do you have to be a fan of one or the other? Actually, I didn't even realize Christina had a new single out. It's called Keeps Getting Better (I think) and I haven't heard it, so I can't offer an opinion. Apparently it sounds like Goldfrapp - someone else I've never listened to. Hmm. Britney, on the other hand, just released Womanizer yesterday and it's amazing! I've been listening to it quite a bit because it's very catchy, just like a pop song should be. Is it the 'comeback' she needs? I don't know. There seems to be a lot of mixed reactions towards it. I think it's way better than Gimmie More, if that means anything. (I never have liked that song. Piece Of Me was great though. I still haven't heard Blackout, so I can't talk about whether the new song sounds like Blackout 2.0 or something.) Ironically, back in middle school I had to keep my love of these two girls secret. I was quite open about my love for boybands, but the female stars? No. Never. I think I might have told people I like Christina (although I don't really remember) but never Britney. She was for people like my cousin, who was her biggest fan. It wasn't cool where I lived to like her, so I never told people I did. That didn't stop me from secretly taping her music videos ("It's for my cousin, I swear!") and silently cheering whenever her songs came on the radio. Back to present day - is it bad that I don't really feel like searching out Christina's song to listen to? I know she has the better voice of the two by far, but I can't help but be more interested in Britney's song. Hmmm... did I just accidentally turn this into my own version of Britney vs. Christina? Oh no! I think that's my cue to stop talking.

7:16pm: I'd always win in the end. (Ryan Adams & The Cardinals)
The new Ryan Adams & The Cardinals single is officially out today. I just looked for it on Itunes & don't see it anywhere, but perhaps it was only released to radio? (According to this thread on the archive, the digital release is on October 7th. That clears things up then!) Ryan (or one of the Cardinals, anyway) uploaded a clip on Foggy - the link is here, but don't blame me if it's not there when you click it because I know he'll probably end up fickleblogging it like everything else & it won't exist anymore. Judging from the clip, it's a really good song. At first I wasn't sure I liked it, but then his voice kicked in & I fell in love. I haven't been listening to the new concert bootlegs that have been coming out, so this was my first time experiencing the song... phwoar. (Sorry, I watched a crappy English movie last night & they kept saying that. Now I'm saying it.) I can't wait to hear the entire thing. I don't typically repost Ryan's blogs, but I happened to love this one from earlier & it completely fits with what I'm talking about... ( so here. )That man never ceases to amaze me, I swear. On a side note, I've been really getting into 29 lately. I bought the album a few months ago & only listened to it once, telling myself I would delve further into it when I had more time to appreciate it. The months passed & I never did, but then Itunes pulled up Starlite Diner on shuffle the other day and it blew me away. Definitely my favorite track, next to Night Birds and the hauntingly beautiful Strawberry Wine. It feels like a very fall/winter album - possibly because it brings shivers down my spine - so I'm sure I'll be listening to it quite a lot as those seasons approach and envelope me.

7:18pm: And don't you tell a soul until you're very old. (Tea Leaf Green)
Listening to all three parts of Tea Leaf Green's The Garden trilogy in order is so much fun. Part III will always be my favorite, since it's the one that got me into the band in the first place, but Part I is so undeniably catchy that I find myself referring to it as my favorite on different occasions. Whenever I listen to Tea Leaf Green, I thank my lucky stars that I managed to get into them when I did. It was such a fluke, really. Here is this band that I've never heard of before, opening for the ever-amazing Trey Anastasio. (Who, might I add, I only went to go see because I happened to hear the concert mentioned on the radio one time when my frinimey and I were driving around.) They take the stage and I don't know what to expect, but something about them just GRABS me and pulls me in. As if this wasn't enough, they have the same effect on my dad - someone who doesn't typically agree with my taste in music! I remember running up to the merch stand (literally 'up', since we were at Charlottesville Pavillion) with him to buy their album and picking up a sticker advertising the upcoming release of Rock N Roll Band. I want to say we listened to it in the car on the drive home that night, but I don't really remember for sure. I just know it didn't leave my cd player for days afterwards. The second time I saw them (and the only headlining show I've ever been to) is definitely one of my most memorable concerts ever, partially because they were on fire that night, but also because their opening act introduced me to another amazing band! (That would be WW&Co. which, um, ever person I've ever come in contact with probably knows.) That was my second and final time getting to see Ben on bass, which also makes it noteworthy. I actually found my set list from that show buried in a pile of posters the other day! That was pretty cool. I've been meaning to frame it for a good year and a half now, but still haven't gotten around to it. :( (What is it with this particular series of opening bands? Trey Anastasio opened for The Rolling Stones. Tea Leaf Green opened for Trey Anastasio. WW&Co. opened for Tea Leaf Green. It makes me wonder if that's the end of the line or if someone amazing is going to open for WW&Co. sometime and continue this magical series?) Anyway, Tea Leaf Green is playing in Richmond tomorrow Thursday night at Toad's Place, plus a mini-acoustic show by Trevor and Josh in Plan 9 earlier that night. I wish I could be there, but I'm trying to push the thoughts out of my mind since dwelling on something that isn't going to happen will just make me unhappy. One day I'll get my chance to meet Trevor Garrod... I just hope it's sometime soon and not, you know, 5 years from now or something insane like that.

4:47am: Our voices lift so easily, a gift given accidentally. (Wilco, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals)
Wilco is such an amazing band. I know I complained like crazy and threw numerous fits this summer when I was forced (not quite the right word in this situation) to see them instead of Tea Leaf Green, but I'm kind of glad things worked out that way now. I've been listening to the two concerts of theirs I've been to on repeat tonight (I'm almost done with my second go round on both) and I'm really blown away, to be honest. I love listening to the instruments and trying to pick out who's playing what sound on what instrument. My ear isn't really in tune with that stuff yet, but I'm trying to teach myself. Currently I'm trying to figure out exactly how Walken differed between the two shows - I know Pat was having problems with his telecaster at the more recent one & he had to stop playing it mid-song, but I haven't quite picked up on how the song changes. I mean, I know WHERE it changed - even if I didn't remember exactly, Jeff says something to Pat right when his guitar freaked out - but I don't know HOW it changed. I really want to start playing an instrument. With the amount of love I have for music, it just doesn't feel right that I don't partake in it somehow - outside of listening to it, attending concerts, and capturing them in digital images, that is. I don't have a good enough voice to be a singer, nor the patience (or talent) to write songs. I always wanted to be a drummer when I was younger, thanks mostly to my love of Ringo Starr, but I'm thinking more and more about picking up the guitar now. I have a student guitar somewhere that I lovingly refer to as my banjo, since it's so tiny, as well as a black Fender. (The location of said Fender is unknown. I think my dad might have it put it somewhere under the impression that it's his. It's not, I assure you. My guitar! Mine! I need to put that on my list of things to ask him about, right under 'location of the battery charger and the batteries for my camera'.) Back to Wilco. They performed a new song called One Wing when I saw them last and I absolutely love it. I'm guessing it will be on the new album, which I hope will come out sometime in the near future because new Wilco music would be lovely. (Old Wilco music would be lovely as well, since I still haven't worked my way through their entire back catalogue yet. I feel silly since I've known about them for years, but Sky Blue Sky was the first album I actually got making me a 'new' fan in that sense. I remember my frinimey's dad coming home with a Wilco album years ago and asking her if she wanted it. I jumped at that and asked her if I could have it, but in the end, neither of us ended up with the cd. Knowing me, I wouldn't have appreciated it back then like I would/do now so maybe it's just as well.) On a similar note, I read somewhere tonight that the new Cardinals album is coming out on October 27th. (The Cardinals being Ryan Adams and his crew, of course.) I'm very excited for this. I can't believe it's been an entire year since I saw him live. I really wish he would come back, but I promised myself I wouldn't complain about it if he brought Foggy back and since he did that, I'll keep quiet on the subject. As far as Foggy is concerned, I love how the rest of the band was in on this incarnation of the blog and were posting things alongside Ryan. That was really neat since the fans got to experience the tour from their viewpoint and it made me feel a bit better about not getting to go to any of the shows. The Cary concert just came on again; round three. You Are My Face is so much better live than on the album. It sounds like a completely different song and I love it - which isn't to say that I don't love the studio version, I just really enjoy hearing them perform it live.

At The Disco, who I hadn't listenined to quite as much as I thought I had, apparently. ;] I got my hands on several new cds, including Maroon 5 & Josh Ritter, so that's where all of those plays came from. The Maroon 5 plays would be a LOT higher if all the times I listened to It Won't Be Soon Before Long on Mary's computer had figured into it! :O Predictions: Ryan Adams & WW&Co. of course. Maroon 5 somewhere near the top. The Hives, maybe? Dave Matthews Band? It's really anyone's guess!

Simple Plan's new album came out on February 12th & I listened to it a bunch of times. Your Love Is A Lie, the second single, is my favorite off of it. :] Predictions: Showings by Tea Leaf Green, Avril Lavigne, & Ryan Adams & The Cardinals. Maybe Panic! [I hate it when I have songs with 0 plays!] - Hence the Wings/Paul McCartney. [Once I started listening to him, I just couldn't stop!] ;] Predictions: The top 3 will consist of Simple Plan, Paul McCartney, & WW&Co. - however, I'm not sure who will be in what spot. I'm curious to see what it does this week. My predictions were right once again! I'm good at this. I got Xandy Barry's album in the mail & listened to it for a couple days straight. It's a shame that nobody knows who he is because he's rather fantastic. California is probably my favorite song off the album. I also got Santi by The Academy Is... in the mail last week & fell in love with that as well. At first I didn't know what to expect because I'd heard so many bad things about the album, but I really liked it. Sure, it's different from Almost Here, but that doesn't mean it sucks! D: Predictions: WW&Co. in the top spot, more likely than not. Appearances by the usual suspects: Tea Leaf Green & Ryan Adams. Other than that, it's anyone's guess. Odd. Anyway, my predictions were right. I got the Hannah Montana 2 cd from my friend Erinn for Christmas & listened to it a bunch, which explains Miley & Hannah being on the chart. [That would be #'s 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, & 9 for the record.] My predictions were right. WW&Co. took the top spot because I listened to every single one of their songs on my computer while I was writing my 10 page research paper for psychology class. 7+ hours worth of music & the play count would be higher if some of the live tracks were broken up into individual songs instead of 30 minute clumps of songs. I got an A on the paper, for the record. :] Ryan Adams made it on there after all! I adore him, seriously. Ashlee Simpson took the top spot due to her new song, Outta My Head [Ay Ya Ya] leaking - in fact, 56 of those plays were that one song alone! Very good song. I didn't like it on the first listen, but it got stuck in my head & made me want to listen to it over & over again. Predictions: WW&Co. will more take the top spot, more likely than not. Ashlee Simpson will be on there, along with the Backstreet Boys. I've been listening to a LOT of random music this week, so who knows who else will end up on there? I'm rooting for Ryan Adams, haha. :] ♥ me

5:50pm: Last.fm chart #19.
According to my last.fm:
Top Played Artists: November 18 - November 25
1. Wilco [79 plays] 2. William Walter & Co. [57 plays] 3. Red Hot Chili Peppers [37 plays] 4. Tea Leaf Green [25 plays] 5. Trey Anastasio [24 plays] 6. Jet [19 plays] 7. Semisonic [13 plays] 8. Morrissey [11 plays] 9. Paul McCartney [7 plays] 10. Avril Lavigne [5 plays]Random mix, eh? RHCP, Jet, & Morrissey were all due to the new cds I bought on Black Friday. I don't remember what made me obsess over Wilco to the extent that I did - maybe I got my concert bootleg last week? I can't remember, but there's a good chance that that's what it was. Hmm. Predictions: Ashlee Simpson will be on there without a doubt. Danity Kane will probably make an apperance, along with The Academy Is... & Tea Leaf Green. WW&Co. should be on there, but that pretty much goes without saying. ;] ♥ me

According to my last.fm:

1. The Calling [103 plays] 2. The Rolling Stones [64 plays] 3. William Walter & Co. [62 plays] 4. Hanson [53 plays] 5. Ryan Adams [44 plays] 6. The Smiths [34 plays] 7. Ashley Parker Angel [25 plays] 8. Evan & Jaron [24 plays] 9. Wings [17 plays] 10. Hannah Montana [16 plays]My predictions for the week were correct- The Calling was the top spot & WW&Co. were also high in the chart. The Smiths, Ryan Adams, & The Rolling Stones also made it on there. I'm kind of surprised to see Hannah Montana on there though - lately I've started watching the show more & more & it made me want to listen to the soundtrack. [I only have the first soundtrack, for the record.] Catchy little songs, aren't they? :] ♥ me

1. The Calling [32 plays] 2. William Walter & Co. [14 plays] 3. Tea Leaf Green [5 plays] 4. Fall Out Boy [4 plays] 5. Maroon 5 [2 plays] 6. Plain White T's [2 plays] 7. Alex Band [2 plays] 8. Nsync [1 play] 9. Oasis [1 play] 10. Flight Of The Conchords [1 play]Very low plays last week due to the fact that I was barely on the computer at all. I was listening to The Calling & Alex Band in preparation for seeing Alex live on the 10th! XD Predictions for the next chart: The Calling & WW&Co. will be high in the chart. Alex Band might make an appearance as well, but I'm not completely sure about that. Ryan Adams will be on there, as well as The Rolling Stones & perhaps The Smiths. :] ♥ me

That, coupled with me hardly being on the computer at all that week, lead to their complete & total takeover of my chart. Thanks TAI. :P ♥ me

6:10pm: Last.fm chart #14.
According to my last.fm:
Top Played Artists: October 14 - October 21
1. William Walter & Co. [203 plays] 2. Ashlee Simpson [28 plays] 3. The Calling [21 plays] 4. Maroon 5 [19 plays] 5. Aly & AJ [14 plays] 6. The All American Rejects [12 plays] 7. Avril Lavigne [11 plays] 8. William Walter & Tucker Rogers [11 plays] 9. Wilco [10 plays] 10. The Rolling Stones [5 plays]I find it amusing how WW&Co. ends up on my chart EVERY single week, although the amount that I listen to them changes dramatically. About 1/3 of those plays were the new version of Late Night Solitaire he put on his myspace- the live one. What can I say? I love that song! Anyway, a lot of other plays were from me randomly putting my Itunes on the "A" section & not bothering to change it. I've been doing that sort of thing a lot lately & I'm not sure why. Hmmm. ♥ me

1. The Hives [115 plays] 2. Maroon 5 [97 plays] 3. Ryan Adams [65 plays] 4. William Walter & Co. [46 plays] 5. John Mayer [36 plays] 6. Matchbox 20 [25 plays] 7. Trey Anastasio [17 plays] 8. Louis XIV [10 plays] 9. Lola Ray [9 plays] 10. Tea Leaf Green [7 plays]I'm really late on these charts & I'm sorry about it. I just haven't had time to keep up with them lately. D: My predictions for this particular week were correct- The Hives & Maroon 5 took the top spots due to me seeing them live on October 8th & falling [more] in love with both of them. Everything else was just random listening, I do believe. :] ♥ me
